Day 9 The Lake District

Thank goodness, a fairly straightforward ride today after the weekend's excitement. Early start and across from Dumfries, through Gretna and into England. I too the National Cycle Route 7 which avoids the heavy traffic and lorries. Strangely, there are no ‘You are now leaving Scotland - welcome to England’ signs - absolutely nothing - so it wasn’t until I was almost in Carlisle that I knew I had got back over the border.

Stopped at Carlisle Castle...

...before heading of to Pooley Bridge arriving late this afternoon. Stopped to take in the magnificent Lake Ullswater...loving the moody sky, before heading off to tonight's B&B. My B&B overlooks Lake Ullswater but I'm too tired to appreciate it.

Unbelievably, it's Day 10 tomorrow. Pooley Bridge to Slaidburn 61 miles through the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
