    Thank you!

Well, that's it then....finished! I arrived at Lands End on schedule at around midday on Wednesday 20 June on a very foggy day. Hard to believe it's June. A bit of hard work I have to say and there were times when I doubted my own sanity. From the very top at Duncansby Head (3 miles from John O'Groats) to Lands End. I've had a couple of days to reflect and gather my thoughts. A real mixture of emotions. Relief that it is over and a tinge of disappointment that it is all ov

    They think it's all over....

...it is now! I'm totally wiped out, running on autopilot at the moment and trying to come down from the intensity of cycling 70+ miles per day. My body is definitely showing signs of stress not least the McBite on my leg from the McFly that I picked up in bonnie Scotland. I still have some pics to share which I need to download. My phone completely gave up by the end and I'm relying on pics from other people. Once I've gathered all of those I'll be able to sign off on Th

    Day 17 - Made it!!!

I've only gone and bloomin' made it! Totally shattered. Big report tomorrow. Watch this space.

    Day 16 - Nearly there..

Leaving North Tawton very early this morning on my way to Simon Browns in Cornwall. This is Peter Cripps who I’ve mentioned before . Trumpeter to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at her Coronation in 1953. A wonderful host who invited some of his friends along to dinner who were lovely people. Leg very swollen and will be very glad to get home! A trip to the docs will be my number one priority. Thank you for the new donations....amazing support from everyone! Final day tomorro
    Day 15 Warp Factor One

    Day 15 Warp Factor One

Up early again!!! Cycled down the Bridgewater to Taunton tow path - lots of very protective swans looking after their cygnets. A lovely feature of the canal is the interpretation of our planetary system. There are models of all the planets and our Sun spaced along the 12 mile section of towpath to scale. I think I’ve cracked space travel- across our planetary system in less than an hour! Across to North Tawton today to stay with Peter Cripps, who I met at St Mary’s last year
    Day 14 Zummerzet

    Day 14 Zummerzet

From Gloucester down to Bridgewater. Great progress made on a very quiet Sunday morning on the roads. Very few lorries which meant I could use the main roads and not faff about with the National Cycle Routes which are a complete pain, scenic but they end up putting extra miles on the journey. I guess they aren't meant for a man on a mission! Anyway, down through the Forest of Dean stopping to check out the steam train...gotta love a steam train. Over the old Severn Bridge c

    Day 13 It's a new dawn, it's a new day...

Another long long long day in the saddle. Telford, Shropshire to Longhope, Gloucestershire and finally at Sally and Martin's in Longhope - 76 miles. Managed to have a bit of down time this afternoon sat on the patio in the sun doing nothing more than some much needed battery recharging. I also managed to access a washing machine to get some urgently needed laundry done. After dinner, some quality time with Martin on the crossword. Tomorrow it’s down to Chepstow, over the Se

    Day 12 After the Storm

After a really hard and stressful couple of days and 2 hours sleep, I slept for 11 hours last night. Felt much better today and managed 85 miles ! Some relatively flat terrain at last No photos today. My Garmin sat nav has completely given up so I'm having to conserve the battery in the phone in case I have to use Googlemaps! On to ‘The Gibsons’ in Gloucestershire tomorrow (obviously not down the M5) Bing Maps is rubbish at this journey stuff for cycling ....instead I'll be
    Day 11 Storm Hector

    Day 11 Storm Hector

An 'interesting' night in my B&B. In order of importance....no phone signal, no WiFi, no flushing toilet. Only 2 hours sleep due to plumbing ‘noises’ meant I was up and away by 6.00. Weather warnings were out as the Storm Hector was about to hit. The 7 miles to Clitheroe turned out to be extremely scary. I was actually blown off the bike twice and ended up walking part of the way for my own safety. I have never known anything like it. The evocative war memorial in Clither

Day 10 To Lancashire & beyond...

What started as a beautiful calm morning developed into one of the hardest rides I’ve ever had to attempt. From the Lakes to Slaidburn in deepest Lancashire. Stunning views across to Lancaster and the North Yorkshire Dales but the hills were endless and unforgiving. Body is starting to hurt now but after a horrendous climb first thing tomorrow hopefully it will be an easier day down to Manchester and beyond. I'll be cycling from Slaidburn - Mottram St Andrew 63 miles. All do
