The Challenge 2018

My passion for cycling manifested itself relatively recently. Apart from the usual kids adventure stuff and paper rounds it was only 7 years ago that I rode a bike again in anger. So, the obvious thing to do next is to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End (or JOGLE as it's known), solo, in aid of charity. Naturally....

The Challenge will be carried out in aid of three charities

If you'd like to donate to any of these excellent charities please click on the relevant name. Thank you!

Cash and cheques are also welcome!

What's Next?

A big part of the winter has been spent planning my trip and my first obstacle to overcome is how do I get from Basingstoke to the very top of Scotland with my trusty Dawes touring bike and baggage?

The answer? By train.

On the 4th June 2018 I will travel from Basingstoke to Euston – Edinburgh - Inverness and onto Wick. Around 20 hours travel in total. On arrival at Wick it’s a quick 20 mile ride up to Duncansby Head, the most north easterly point of the UK mainland.

Then we’re off! The short 3 miles to John O’Groats and across to Tongue , south towards Inverness and follow a route taking in Loch Ness, Fort William and the Caledonian canal eventually skirting to the west of Glasgow and then the borders. Into England , The Lakes down to Manchester, Shropshire, Gloucestershire , Somerset , Devon and Cornwall arriving at Lands End (hopefully) on 20th June.

I'll be keeping you posted with updates about my Big Challenge...watch this space!
